Trucks at Work

A trip to Tampa and TMC …

Spent the good part of the last four days down here in sunny Tampa at the 2012 Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) annual meeting.

(Sadly, this will be the last time this seminal trucking event will be held in Tampa for some time, it seems, as it relocates to the Opryland hotel and convention center in Nashville, TN, for next year).

As with any trucking trade show, there’s always something new and interesting to peruse, from the latest in aerodynamic devices to tires, greases, electronic gizmos, you name it.

Yet it’s always the slightly unusual things one finds at such trucking trade show events that makes them fun to attend …

On a more serious note, alternative fuels are getting ever-closer inspection from a range of different trucking operators, and several models powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) were on hand for the nearly 3,000 attendees at this year’s TMC convention to check out in detail …

Yet even every-day trucking equipment, like the ubiquitous trailer, doesn’t stay static in this business for very long. For an example of that, check out some design enhancements below crafted by Coca-Cola with its supplier Great Dane Trailers

One thing is for certain at such industry events – there’s always something to draw the interest of even the most jaded of trucking veterans.
