In August, total reported volumes of used Class 8 trucks dropped 10% month over month and 6% year over year, per the latest State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks report published by ACT Research.
“Year to date, sales remain down 5%,” said Steve Tam, ACT’s vice president-Commercial Vehicle Sector. According to Tam, both the retail and wholesale markets contracted month over month, but auctions gained 5% in the same timeframe.
“The average selling price of total reported Class 8 trucks remained at a high level, but was flat relative to July,” he pointed out.
“There remains the real possibility of an upside surprise to our expectation of price appreciation up to 10% in 2014,” Tam added.
The ACT report includes data on the average selling price, miles and age of used trucks based on a sample of industry data. The report also provides the average selling price for top-selling Class 8 models for each of the major truck OEMs.
