Prestolite Electric, a global manufacturer of alternators, starters and new-energy solutions marketed under the Leece-Neville Heavy Duty Systems and Prestolite brands, has been acquired by Zhongshan Broad-Ocean Motor Co. (Broad-Ocean), a manufacturer of specialty rotary electrics.
“The acquisition, which expands the Broad Ocean-Prestolite business footprint to North, Central and South America as well as Europe, Africa, Australia and adjacent regions, signals a significant, sustained commitment to next-generation technologies, product line expansion and world-class manufacturing and quality systems,” the company said.
Prestolite and the Leece-Neville brand maintain U.S.-based engineering and manufacturing operations. Additionally, Broad-Ocean recently opened a research and development facility in Novi, MI, that will support vehicle manufacturers, fleet customers and the commercial vehicle OEM and aftermarket. Prestolite also operates a manufacturing facility in Arcade, NY, and a distribution and customer service center in Florence, KY.
“This acquisition will bring significant new benefits to Prestolite and Leece-Neville customers around the world,” said Tony Wong, president, Prestolite North America. “We have a unique focus on leading-edge technologies, U.S.-based manufacturing and assembly and best-in-class quality standards, all of which are supported by our own global engineering team and backed with the manufacturing and quality systems expertise of Broad-Ocean Motors.”
The Prestolite and Leece-Neville product line includes high-output alternators and gear reduction starter motors for on- and off-highway trucks, military applications, mining vehicles, school and city buses, motor coaches and other uses.
