Two retread tires from Continental Tire the Americas’ Commercial Vehicle Tire Business Unit have been verified by the EPA’s SmartWay Transport Partnership as low rolling resistance products.
The ContiTread retreads were submitted for verification on the first day companies could do so, June 12.
“We would like to thank the SmartWay Transport Partnership for their efforts in making sure that trucking has a retread solution in their program. SmartWay’s verification now reinforces what we have been saying since we first introduced our premium ContiTread products: you can reduce operating costs through retreading and reduce fuel usage too. Now these products have been verified by SmartWay under strict testing protocols to meet their rigorous standards,” said Paul Williams, Continental’s executive vice president for truck tires, the Americas.
The retreads, the HDL Eco Plus ContiTread (drive) and HTL Eco Plus ContiTread (trailer), passed the SmartWay test which verifies products as low rolling resistance when used on line-haul, Class 8 trucks. They must provide reductions in fuel consumption of at least 3% compared to the most popular retread products now in use.
