The world's first dome lamp with infrared motion activation has been updated with a 12-volt version. The S100 LED WhiteLight surface-mount dome lamp from Grote Industries was originally released last year in Europe as a 24-volt product. The company said that the lamp is expected to be used in dry vans, utility vans, moving trucks and delivery vehicles.
The 12-volt version uses a passive infrared motion sensor in the lamp body, calibrated to recognize the heat signature unique to humans. The lamp turns on if it detects movement within 6 ft., and remains on for three minutes following the last motion detected. At just 15-mm thick, the lamps are said to produce 300-lumen output with low amperage draw and minimal heat generation.
Grote is also testing a dome lamp for refrigerated applications.
