KLLM-Frozen Foods Express to install LED forward lighting

Jan. 16, 2015

KLLM-Frozen Foods Express will install Truck-Lite LED forward lighting on all new trucks, Truck-Lite said.

KLLM, based in Richland, MI, operates in 48 states with a fleet of over 3,500 tractors and 5,000 trailers. The Truck-Lite Custom LED headlights will be installed on all 2016 Freightliner and Volvo models – nearly 700 trucks in all. The first trucks will be delivered in February.

“We’re excited to get the safety and maintenance benefits of LED lighting into as many vehicles as we can. It’s huge to have our product on a fleet with the reputation of KLLM-Frozen Foods Express,” said Homer Newsome, senior vice president of customer satisfaction at Truck-Lite.

Truck-Lite said its LED headlights offer improved driver visibility through its more natural color of light, leading to improved object recognition at night and increased daytime visibility. Also, the LED beam pattern reduces eyestrain for drivers and reduces harsh headlight glare to oncoming traffic.

An additional benefit is a significant reduction in amperage draw on the vehicle’s electrical system, freeing up power for other uses and resulting in a 50-times longer lighting system life than conventional halogen technology.

“This is a complement to our existing suite of safety features. Driver safety has always been our number one priority and we feel that this improvement is a key step in keeping safety first,” said Jim Richards, President of KLLM-Frozen Foods Express.
