New wide-base radial, all-position radial for heavy-duty urban operation

May 21, 2013

NEW ORLEANS. Bridgestone Commercial Solutions is introducing two new tires for heavy-duty urban use this week at Waste Expo in New Orleans. The Greatec M845 wide-base radial and M860A high-scrub all-position radial leverage new technologies to meet high demands of urban environments, the company said.

“Stop and go driving, oil and chemical residue, pot holes, metal plates, cracked paving, weather – all these road conditions and more pose unique challenges to urban-use tires and are compounded by heavy duty job demands, such as urban waste collection,” said Bert Jones, manager, product marketing, TBR, Retread and OTR, Bridgestone Commercial Solutions. “The new design innovations in these tires help prolong tire life, retreadability and keep the tire performing to highest levels.”

The M860A features a new compound that improves wear performance leading to longer life. It is also engineered with a wider belt package that enhances casing durability, making it more retreadable and extending casing asset life.

The M860A is engineered specifically for refuse, high-scrub and short-haul applications. It features a special compound that improves wear performance and life span while a wider belt package enhances casing durability and increases retreadability. The tire also includes aggressive blocks to bite into soft surfaces for better traction; stone rejector platforms; angled grooves to promote wet traction; solid shoulder design to evenly distribute weight and torque to fight irregular wear and block squirm for even wear. Other features include a long-lasting tread designed to spread load over a larger area for long life, a special cap compound, sidewall protector ribs, wide casing and wide belt design, and reinforced bead.

The tire will be available in June.

The Greatec M845 is available in a new size for Bridgestone, 455/55R22.5. It is engineered for high-traction and high-scrub applications and is designed to support heavier loads. The tire includes next-generation WavedBelt technology, which reduces irregular shoulder wear. Key innovative elements include stone rejector platforms to prevent trapped stones, which can damage belts; optimized groove shape to increase durability and enhance retreadability; an aggressive block pattern that promotes wet traction; and a continuous shoulder design for reduced rolling resistance. Other features include, special tread compounds, extra-deep and extra-wide tread, tough sidewall protection, optimized belt package, and patented Turn-In Ply design.

“This new tire size meets the ever increasing need of customers who want to maximize operational efficiencies,” said Jones. “The wide base design allows for heavier loads, requiring fewer trips and ultimately putting more money toward their bottom line.”

The tire will be available in July.
