Eaton Corp. is expanding its UltraShift Plus line of automated mechanical transmissions (AMTs) with two new vocational platforms, along with a lower torque range for linehaul applications.

The new 10-spd. vocational active shifting (VAS) and 13-spd. vocational high performance (VHP) UltraShift models are both designed for linehaul vocational use. The VAS version offers between 1,050 and 1,650 lbs.-ft. of torque, while the VHP provides between 1,650 and 2,050 lbs.-ft. of torque.

In addition to the VAS and VHP applications, Eaton is also expanding its 18-spd. multipurpose extreme performance (MXP) platform to include logging, mining, oil field, construction, city delivery, refuse and off-road operations.

Shane Groner, North America product planning manager for Eaton’s commercial vehicle transmission division, noted the MXP offers an unlimited gross combination weight rating and torque up to 2,250 lbs.-ft., making it its most versatile UltraShift offering.

Finally, Eaton is adding lower torque models of its vocational construction series (VCS) and vocational multipurpose series (VMS) UltraShift transmissions, offering 1,050 and 1,250 lbs.-ft. of torque, respectively, primarily for mixer and dump truck applications.

Groner also noted that truck maker Western Star is now offering the UltraShift AMT line in its databook for DD13-equipped Western Star 4900 day-cab trucks. UltraShift Plus will also become available for DD13 and Cummins ISL-equipped Western Star 4700 trucks by January next year, he added.
