The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) has awarded Michelin Truck Tires and Michelin Aircraft Tires “Best Value” awards. The awards were presented for meeting performance requirements in the agency’s “Automated Best Value System.”
More than 7,000 businesses supply parts to the military with 182 being recognized at the 2011 DLA Industry Conference and Exhibition, held recently in Columbus, OH. This is the fourth consecutive year that both Michelin North America divisions earned a “Best Value” award.
“This award from the Defense Logistics Agency reflects Michelin’s expertise, reliability and commitment to supporting our military’s mobility through our global supply chain capabilities,” said Dick Wilkerson, chairman & president of Michelin North America. “Working with our partners at Lockheed Martin and SAIC, as well as our suppliers, we are able to offer our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines the ‘right-tire, on-time’ service they need. The men and women of the U.S. military sacrifice a lot to serve our country, we at Michelin are glad we get the chance to serve them in this way.”
Since 2007, Michelin has supplied tires for nearly all U.S. aircraft and ground vehicles used by the military. In some cases, those tires are sourced from other tire manufacturers, Michelin said, adding that it has processed more than 130,000 requisitions and delivered more than 1.5 million tires to over 2,500 locations worldwide under the contract.
“Efficiently moving tires around the world, and providing reverse logistics for aircraft tires, is not an easy task,” said Wilkerson, “But, with four years of execution and eight awards, these contracts and our contract for managing the global supply and delivery of aircraft tires to the US Navy have been highly successful.”
