International Truck and Engine Corp. announced that International 8600 and 9000i Series vehicles will now be available with a Cummins ISM engine rated 410 hp. International 5000i Series trucks will be offered with Cummins' new ISM 425V HP (vocational rating).

The new engine ratings target regional haul and severe-service customers, the company says. They offer increased horsepower and 1,550 lb.-ft. of torque in a lightweight engine package-just 2,190 lb. dry weight.

The Cummins ISM is equipped with Load-Based Speed Control, a feature designed to optimize shifting by managing engine rpm according to changing operating conditions, such as vehicle weight and terrain. Also standard on the new engines is Gear-Down Protection, which encourages drivers to operate in top gear for the best possible fuel economy.

“The new Cummins ISM engine ratings are exactly what our customers are looking for,” says Jordan Feiger, vp and general manager, heavy vehicle center, International Truck and Engine Corp. “They get higher horsepower available in one of the lightest weight engines in the industry.”
