Kohler Power Systems is entering the auxiliary power unit (APU) market, offering an air-cooled, 5-kW APU in a “side-rail mounted size.” The APU will be available later this year.

Kohler says that with dimensions of 27" × 26" × 23” and a weight of under 350 lb., the APU is one of the smallest and lightest air-cooled generators on the market. It provides 120-volt AC and 50-Amp DC power.

According to Kohler, its direct-drive alternator eliminates the need for belts, thereby increasing reliability and reducing maintenance. The company says that the oil service interval for the APU is 500 hours.

The product is backed by a distributor-dealer network of 500.
