Carrier Transicold's new Supra 950 produces the highest output of any truck refrigeration unit made by the company, while also significantly reducing sound output compared to the model it replaces, according to the business unit of United Technologies Corp.

Joining the Supra 550, 650, 750 and 850, the top-of-the-line Supra 950 has a cooling capacity of 32,000 Btus, with a setpoint of 35°F in ambient 100°F temperatures, making it suitable for frozen applications.

The low noise output was achieved with a new “skin” that combines composite materials for low weight and easy maintenance, as well as sound attenuation, according to Carrier. A 1.1L diesel engine and 6-cyl. compressor provide the high output at relatively low operating speeds, further reducing noise as well as conserving fuel, the company said. An optional electric standby motor also helps reduce noise and eliminate emissions at loading docks and other closed facilities.

Maintenance-related features include the ability to check engine oil level, check and add engine coolant and check refrigerant level without open the unit doors.
