ATRI reminds trucking to let its voice be heard

Aug. 30, 2012

The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) sent out a reminder to trucking industry professionals that the research organization is soliciting participation in its 2012 Top Industry Issues survey.

The annual survey, commissioned by the American Trucking Assns. (ATA), asks trucking stakeholders to rank the top issues of concern to them along with appropriate strategies for addressing each issue.

This year, ATRI said, the survey has been streamlined to allow participants to give feedback more quickly, while also providing a broader range of issues to consider.

These are the issues survey participants are asked to rank:

- Congestion/Truck Bottlenecks

- Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA)

- Driver Distraction

- Driver Health/Wellness

- Driver Retention

- Driver Shortage

- Economy

- Electronic Onboard Recorder/Electronic Logging Device Mandate

- Electronic Stability Control Mandate

- Fuel Economy and Greenhouse Gas Standards

- Fuel Supply/Fuel Prices

- Highway Infrastructure

- Hours-of-Service

- Independent Contractor Status

- Natural Gas in Trucking

- Speed Limiters

- Tolling/Vehicle Mileage Taxes

- Tort Reform

- Truck Parking

- Truck Size and Weight

- Truck Security/Cargo Theft

Survey participants are asked to select their top three areas of concern and are then asked to rank possible solutions to the issues.

Survey takers are also offered the option of adding other areas of concern as well as their own solutions to the issues if they differ from those offered in the survey.

Truckers are encouraged to complete the survey online at http://atri-online.org/2012/08/01/critical-issues-in-the-trucking-industry-2012/.

Alternately, a paper copy is available on ATRI’s website at www.atri-online.org.

The results of the 2012 survey will be released at the ATA Annual Management Conference and Exhibition, to be held Oct. 7-10 in Las Vegas.
