Coping with fleet mandates subject of session at 2012 Institute & Expo

Fleet plans can change, sometimes in an instance, as upper management reacts to a changing marketplace. How to deal with these sudden disruptions to the planning, operation, and execution of a long-term plan can leave fleet managers befuddled.

To address this issue, NAFA will dedicate a session to the subject at its upcoming 2012 Institute & Expo, to be held April 21-24, at the America’s Center in St. Louis, MO.

“One of the most important aspects for coping with mandates is picking up on the signs that ‘change’ may be forthcoming,” said NAFA’s Executive Director Phillip E. Russo, CAE.  “This session not only helps attendees learn how to read the signs, but explains how being proactive – helping executives and elected officials know more about fleet – can benefit their fleet operations.  It’s a session fleet managers will not want to miss.”

The session, entitled “Coping With Fleet Mandates From Executives And Other Elected Officials,” will be led by industry leaders discussing how to anticipate disruptive directives and how planning and proactive managing can mitigate the severity of the mandate change. The session will take place on Saturday, April 21, from 3-5 p.m.

The session will be moderated by Teresa Davis, PhD, Director of Transportation Services, Pennsylvania State University and led by John Brewington, CAFM, CEM, President, Brewington & Company. Attendees will hear examples of approaches that have worked in real-world circumstances and be asked to share success stories of their own.

Also being offered is a session entitled, “Alternative Fuel Vehicle Grant Funding.” This session will offer fleet managers advice on how to get grants to help cover the costs of transitioning to a sustainable fleet.

The session takes place on Tuesday, April 24 from 8:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. and will be moderated by NAFA senior vice president Claude Masters, CAFM, manager vehicle acquisition and fuel, Florida Power & Light. The educational session is led by Bill Van Amburg, senior vice president, CALSTART and Jasna Tomic, PhD, fuels program manager, CALSTART.  The session covers where and how to seek grant funds to meet vehicle/equipment needs; what types of local, state, and federal funding is available to companies and organizations; and how to navigate the dreaded paperwork maze that can frighten off potential participants.
