Boshart Engineering, Inc., the North American distributor of Econix diesel emissions products, released a free online “2-for-1 Eligibility Tool” today. It is designed to make it easier for fleet owners to see if they are eligible for a new California Air Resources Board (CARB) diesel truck retrofit credit.
The credit, added as an amendment to the state’s Diesel Truck and Bus Rule passed in 2008, allows fleets to save up to 50% on the cost of retrofitting two vehicles or more with diesel particulate filters (DPFs), but only if they meet specific requirements.
CARB announced the amendments earlier this year, partly to relieve recession-affected diesel truck fleets suffering from high compliance costs, but the qualifications for receiving the credits are complex and can require knowledgeable calculation, according to Ken Boshart, president of Boshart Engineering, Inc.
Boshart recommends that fleet owners check their eligibility first before making any purchasing decisions based on the 2-for-1 DPF retrofit credit.
Since CARB’s 2-for-1 credit can provide financial relief for hundreds of fleets, Boshart noted, it is important to understand all the details of the amendment to the retrofit regulation. For example, if a fleet installs one diesel particulate filter, they may receive credit for the retrofitted truck and a second retrofit credit that can be applied to another qualifying vehicle without having to buy a second DPF.
“We’ve been seeing lots confusion out there,” Boshart said. “What better way to serve our fleet owners than to provide a tool that can give them a clear answer about how they can benefit from this new credit?”
According to the company, fleet owners use the tool to enter their fleet/vehicle information and Econix representatives work with them to help determine their eligibility for the credit.
