LOUISVILLE, KY. A new lithium-ion battery option will increase running time for the Nite no-idle cab climate control system by 16% while decreasing the weight of the battery pack by 60%, according to the manufacturer, Bergstrom Inc. Compared to the unit’s standard acid glass mat (AGM) batteries, the li-ion batteries will also last four times longer with an overall life of six to eight years and are able to recharge at a faster rate, the company said at a press conference during the Mid America Trucking Show.

Bergstrom also introduced a high-capacity version of its battery-powered no-idle cab cooling system for fleets operating in extremely hot climates. Joining the company’s Nite and Nite Plus models, the new Nite Phoenix has the highest and longest cooling capacity of any battery powered no-idle system on the market, according to Bergsgtrom.

In addition to high capacity and long runtime, the Nite Phoenix includes a new LCD digital user interface and battery monitoring system that makes it easier for drivers to control the unit, according to Bill Gordon, national director of aftermarket and director of global marketing for Bergstrom.

“The goal in developing our line of battery-powered Nite systems is to provide drivers with an effective solution to maintaining cab comfort while adhering to no-idling restrictions,” said Gordon. “The Nite Phoenix is a powerful addition to our line of Nite Systems, and we are very pleased to be able to help drivers in hot climates stay cool.”
