To improve online tracking and tracing capabilities for freight, package delivery company DHL is launching ProView, a suite of web-based shipment visibility and event notification tools to enhance access to transit status information.

ProView gives DHL customers real-time event notification when a shipment or group of shipments reaches key transfer points, said Maryann Goebel, global chief information officer for DHL Express, such as transiting an international gateway or potential delays due to an incorrect address.

Goebel added that ProView also allows customers to use a technology platform they choose themselves, such as email or SMS text messaging to a PC, cell phone or mobile device, to receive shipment notifications.

“Shipment notification filters built into ProView give customers more control over the types of notifications they want to receive—by individual shipment or a summary of shipments grouped by billed-to account number,” she said. “Shipment visibility is available for up to 2,000 customer accounts—a helpful feature for customers with multiple distribution centers, offices, and departments that utilize separate account numbers, so customers no longer need to rely on entering individual waybills into a system for tracking.”

Goebel added that DHL implemented ProView to help customers automatically monitor and communicate shipment information in real time. “We let the technology do the work for them, giving customers the ability to be even more responsive to their own customers through this new application,” she said.
