Integrated telematics and navigation solution

Maptuit has made available a navigation solution that’s designed to integrate with its existing fleet management solution by using a combination of an on-board computing devices and telematics. Maptuit’s NaviGo solution leverages on-board hardware loaded with maps, provided by Maptuit’s partners, which communicate over-the-air with Maptuit servers for routing based on up-to-date road conditions.

The NaviGo on-board hardware and server is able to exchange information via satellite, cellular or Wi-Fi, depending on the over-the-air communications provider the trucking company chooses to interact with the hardware.

The location and map information on the NaviGo-enabled hardware “goes to our servers to get the route,” Carlos Bernal, marketing and public relations manager told FleetOwner. “We update all of our information on a daily basis. For example, during the recent Nor’easter, NaviGo would route drivers based on the shutdowns of portions of I-95.”

Maptuit updates the maps based on communication with DOTs, transportation agencies, and news outlets to factor in road changes from closures, weather, construction, traffic, and natural disasters.

The NaviGo solution relies on Maptuit to provide the software, and update the map data and routing algorithms while its partners—including DriverTech, GeoLogic, Cadec, PeopleNet, MicroNet, Intermec, and Symbol—provide the on-board hardware.

NaviGo is easily integrated with Maptuit’s FleetNav product, which is designed to help dispatchers track and manage their fleet, the company said. FleetNav is a suite of tools that provides directions, fuel data and alerts.

“The dispatcher would place the dispatch orders into the NaviGo unit to the driver so when the driver logs on…he will see all the dispatch orders there,” Bernal explained. “Or [drivers] can themselves type the address of where they’re going.”

The NaviGo solution also provides map graphics, a simple touch screen interface, and text-to-speech to improve driver satisfaction, Maptuit said.
