SmartDrive Systems Inc. has been awarded a contract by the State of California and the California Dept. of Transportation (CalTrans) for its video-capture hardware and incident review service. CalTrans will begin using the SmartDrive hardware and services in the first quarter of 2007.
The SmartDrive service combines captured video events of erratic driving and speeding with professional review of the events for driver counseling. Video and diagnostic data is accessible to managers by logging onto the SmartDrive secure website.
“Our service will enable CalTrans to increase fuel economy, reduce maintenance costs, and track the utilization of vehicles,” said Jim Plante, SmartDrive CEO.
