Bradco Supply, a large roofing materials manufacturer and distributor, has begun using Gearwork's etrace mobile workforce management service to manage its national delivery fleet. A Java-based application that runs on GPS-enabled Nextel handsets, etrace provides real-time dispatch, tracking and messaging over the Nextel packet data network.

Ward Truckload Express has begun monitoring high-value cargo and managing out-of-route miles with Trip Alert from Integrated Decision Support Corp. Trip Alert provides a real-time interface between dispatch and wireless communications systems that allows fleets to quickly identify drivers who are out of route or running behind schedule. Ward Truckload operates 140 tractors in the Northeastern U.S.

As part of consolidation into a single metropolitan government, the joined public works fleet for Jefferson and Louisville, KY, has installed the FleetWave equipment management system from Chevin Fleet Solutions. The web-based system allows dispersed agencies to maintain over 2,300 vehicles and 1,700 pieces of motorized equipment, according to Chevin.

PlanetLink Communications has launched a new website (www.planettraks.com) to support its GPS-based tracking and remote control systems. The new site offers information about the company's family of tracking products as well as corporate financial information.

John Morrell & Co. has joined the Nistevo Collaborative Logistics Network. Functioning as the company's transportation management system, it interacts with parent company Smithfield's supply chain partners and provides real-time visibility for in-transit orders across the supply chain.

Purchasing the Xora GPS TimeTrack for more than 100 GPS-enabled Nextel handsets, McCain Transport became the 1,000 customer for the fleet management application. The low-cost Xora service uses a Java application for GPS-enabled mobile phones to track and record timesheet information and employee locations. www.xora.com

Regional flatbed carrier Bilbo Transports of Irving, Texas, has fitted its entire fleet of 250 tractors with the PeopleNet g2x wireless communications and onboard computer system. The mobile system will be completely integrated with Bilbo's AS/400-based dispatching software, according the company.

Over 1,500 dry van trailers in the Continental Express Inc. (CEI) fleet have been equipped with an untethered trailer tracking system from SkyBitz. CEI provides truckload and truck-to-rail service throughout the U.S. and Mexico.
