The FleetView 3 trailer tracking system is now available with a solar power option, according to Terion. The new Solar Power Assist is designed to increase battery life when the location and event status reporting system is untethered from a tractor and operating on battery power, as well as reduce maintenance.
According to Terion, Solar Power Assist extends battery life by reducing deep discharges and total charging cycles. Battery life between recharges is increased by a factor of three on average, allowing for longer continued visibility if a trailer that sits idle for extended amounts of time. The technology also doubles the overall life of the battery before replacement, the company says, resulting in reduced maintenance costs.
FleetView 3 with Solar Power Assist employs high-density solar cell technology, maximizing the charge provided while minimizing the required solar cell footprint, says Terion. The new antenna/charger is identical to the current antenna, which is designed to replace a standard marker light.
