Hino Motors Ltd., one of Japan’s leading truck manufacturers, is set for an aggressive approach to growth, for the coming period. The company managed to shift 128,466 units in the 2011/2012 financial year, of which 91,551 were sold outside Japan (but mainly in Asia).
Now, according to the president of the company, Yohshio Shirai, who spoke at a recent presentation, they plan to increase their sales figure considerably for the following fiscal year, with a target of 153,000 units. The main markets they will be looking to expand on are China and Russia, but also the Middle East (so that drifters will have more obstacles on the road). This shift will require a few changes within the company, and its business structure being reformed at all levels (development and research, production and manufacturing, as well as sales).

The key to the desired sales increase is the design of market-specific trucks, and the manufacturing of these trucks outside Japan at an increased capacity, in countries like Thailand and Indonesia where the company has factories and their trucks are already being built.
Also, they plan on building a new Japanese plant, in Kuga. This new factory will provide kits which will be merely assembled outside Japan, to keep costs down.
