A new mini digital video recorder that can record both a forward-facing road view camera and a rear-facing cabin-view camera has been released by Safety Vision.

The SafeDrive MiniDVR records video, audio and metadata to a removable CompactFlash card and is mounted on the windshield.

“The SafeDrive MiniDVR is capable of simultaneously recording post-event snapshots as it transfers motion video from the internal buffer onto the CompactFlash card for video storage,” said Mark Sahinen, vp-sales, for Safety Vision.

Video is recorded when a vehicle operator is speeding or driving erratically, when a crash occurs, or when the driver manually presses the event save button. It also records GPS map coordinates, G-force data, vehicle speed, event trends and audio.

With an internal battery backup, the camera also includes infrared illuminators for low-light recording, a permanent mounting bracket or optional suction cup, optional remote contact switch, and four programmable sensors for metadata capture.
