American Mobile reports that its MobileMAX2 mobile messaging service, rolled out last fall, will soon be complemented by a new service using a handheld interactive pager designed expressly to address the needs of small fleets.

Bob Goldsmith, executive vp and COO, says the new service will be "positioned as an extension of desktop e-mail." He told FLEET OWNER it will combine two services - messaging and e-mail - into one user-friendly package. The service will be marketed by American Mobile as well as through an arrangement with SkyTel.

Goldsmith says the service will be tailored to the requirements of "smaller" fleets, which he defined as those operating 50 to 100 trucks.
