FMCSA is seeking public comment on the feasibility of procedures and programs for hazmat drivers and transportation.

Under consideration are the following: Pre-notification of some hazmat transportation so law enforcement can be prepared for accidents; armed escorts for hazmat vehicles; vehicle tracking; anti-theft devices; and allowing drivers to leave hazmat trucks in secure areas.

Information is needed on the technology to implement these requirements, their effectiveness, costs, safety or productivity benefits that could offset costs, and which measures should be limited to which hazardous materials.
