Two new steer axles, including a wide-track option, have been introduced by the Commercial Vehicle Systems Div. of Dana Corp. The Dana Spicer D-800F replaces the I-80SG; the D-800W offers a 1-in. wider beam for even greater maneuverability.

The axles are designed with new steering geometry that makes it easier to steer and maneuver the vehicle. Enhancements include a bigger kingpin angle for easier recovery from a high turn angle maneuver, and a smaller scrub radius for greater steering stability.

The new steer-axle design also addresses maintenance issues. For example, proper re-lubrication is ensured via a powdered metal kingpin cap that seals the bushing cavity, while bolted-on kingpin caps and threaded drawkeys make the axles easier to service.
