Private fleet management system FleetAdvisor has added support for 802.11b wireless Local Area Network (LAN) data transfers. Called Wi-Fi, the standard allows wireless high-speed data communications and is becoming popular for extending network access within warehouses, terminals and other work sites.
Version 5.1 of FleetAdvisor also adds expanded vehicle status monitoring by exception and new web-based features for routing, dispatching and changing order entries, according to developer Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions.
With data transfer speeds of up to 11 Mbps, Wi-Fi will allow FleetAdvisor OBCs to wirelessly send and receive large data files such as manifests when a vehicle pulls into a location. Unlike long-range wireless systems, there are no wireless service costs for 802.11b data communications.
