Wrecking it to repair it

Ryder System recently unveiled a new maintenance challenge to highlight the skills of its 5,000-plus technicians: Project Rebirth. After running a brand new 2015 model-year Volvo tractor and dry van trailer through a “gauntlet of destruction,” including an exploding debris field, a destructive spike strip, and finally, the impact of a two-ton wrecking ball, Ryder towed it to one of its repair facilities in Atlanta, Ga., where a team of 10 technicians from across the company’s North American network were given just 24 hours to put it back in working order.
