Written and illustrated by Kyle Rose and Allan Rae, two employees at Navistar's Springfield, OH, plant, Brutus — The Big Red Truck is a children's book intended to deliver a positive message about respecting others, playing nicely, and noticing the “good” in everyone, despite differences, and to do so in a manner that fosters discussion among children and their parents, according to Navistar.

What's more, the book is serving as the foundation for an outreach effort to local elementary schools by employees at Navistar facilities across the country. So far, some 5,000 copies of Brutus have been donated to schoolchildren as well as to company employees. “The feedback has been great,” says co-author Rose. “The kids really seem to get the message, and it's rewarding to know our little book is helping encourage respect for one another at such an important time in life.”

The book, also available in Spanish, can be purchased by the general public for the nominal fee of $4 a copy. Navistar says proceeds will benefit charities in Springfield.
