As the president of TCA, I hope to do precisely what the leadership of TCA wants to do,” says Christopher W. Burruss, president-elect of the Truckload Carriers Assn. “That's my personal philosophy on organization management, and if you ask me the same question a year from now the answer will stay the same,” he adds. “The members should set the direction for an organization.”
Burruss will begin his tenure in June. Until then, he will continue as president&CEO of the Tennessee Trucking Assn., a position he has held for the past five years. Tennessee is the place he and his family consider home, but the opportunity to work for the industry he loves on a national level persuaded him to move to Washington. “If this position was not in trucking, I would not be doing it,” he offers. “Trucking is the only industry I'd want to be affiliated with.”
His record of service to the industry is indeed a long one. From 1991 until he assumed his duties with the Tennessee Trucking Assn., Burruss was vp of the Missouri Motors Carriers Assn. Today, he also serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of ATA, as well as on ATA's Intermodal Committee.
Lance Craig of Craig Transportation, Perrysburg, OH, will assume the chairmanship of TCA for 2004-2005. He was sworn in during the TCA meeting in Waikoloa, HI, on March 14. Craig also has a long history of service to the trucking industry: first vice chairman of TCA from 2003-2004; chairman of the North American Transportation Management Institute; and Board member of TCA's Truckload Academy ship Committee.
