Border Patrol agents at a remote Southern California border checkpoint seized 14 tons of marijuana and arrested a 35-year-old trucker in what agents said is one of the largest drug hauls ever at a highway checkpoint.

The bust occurred on Highway 86 near Salton City, approximately 60 miles north of the Mexico border.

Dogs alerted agents to the truck last week and upon inspection, border patrol agents found more than 1,100 bundles of pot packed in wooden crates. The checkpoint is located in the Border Patrol’s El Centro sector, which sits across the Mexican border city of Mexicali.
