A former director of safety policy at the American Trucking Assns. (ATA) has returned as vp of safety policy. Rob Abbott, who served in the 1990s as the lead staff specialist on safety rating, enforcement, and drug and alcohol testing issues, returns to work with members and affiliated organizations to further develop and promote ATA’s safety agenda.

“We are very pleased to have Rob join our staff,” said ATA president & CEO Gov. Bill Graves. “His experience and industry knowledge will greatly benefit our members and help further the trucking industry’s commitment to safety.”

Abbott will also represent ATA before the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and other federal and state agencies and private sector organizations. Since leaving ATA, he has served as vp of safety and compliance for TransForce, Inc., a nationwide transportation staffing firm. He also served as managing director of TransForce’s DOT compliance services division, TransForce Services Group.

Abbott succeeds Dave Osiecki, who was recently promoted to ATA sr. vp of policy and regulatory affairs.
