Cookeville, TN-based Averitt Express has announced major LTL service improvements in thousands of its lanes. As a result of recent network optimization efforts, Averitt said it has improved service in 14,000 lanes, resulting in faster transit times. In addition, the carrier estimates about 86-million lbs of freight moving throughout its network will receive less handling-- allowing it “to deliver an even higher quality of service.”
Some of the markets that are directly benefitting from the improvements include: Augusta, GA; Beaumont, TX; Cleveland, OH; Cookeville, TN; Corbin, KY; Darlington, SC; Fayetteville, TN; Hickory, NC; Jonesboro, AK; Lubbock, TX; Meridian, MS; Shenandoah, VA; and Tyler and Waco, TX.
Averitt also said its “network reengineering” will cut its total operating miles by 576,000 annually, which will result in saving some 100,000 gallons of diesel fuel each year.
According to Phil Pierce, Averitt vp of sales & marketing, the carrier sought to make the improvements as part of its constant effort to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction.
"We're constantly reengineering our distribution network to get freight to our customers faster and more efficiently," said Pierce. "After months of analyzing our shipping patterns, we found several opportunities for improvement within our network that are ultimately resulting in better transit times, more direct loading and less shipment handling."
