Set for Dec. 10, “Call Congress Day” is a grassroots campaign sponsored by coalition of 28 construction associations and unions to prod Congress into passing a six-year surface transportation authorization bill.
The Transportation Construction Coalition (TCC) says calls to elected officials from managers and employees of businesses dependent of highways will “put the issue on the radar for lawmakers.”
The current highway reauthorization act expired on Sept. 30 and a new measure is required to continue providing funds for road and transit maintenance and construction. Temporary funding measures have been passed by Congress, but a full six-year reauthorization has yet to be introduced in either House of Congress.
To participate in the campaign, industry members can call the toll free number 1-888-448-2872 and enter their home zip code to be connected directly with the office of their Congressional representatives. TCC says that once connected, “callers should ask to speak to the Legislative Assistant who handles transportation issues and let the person know, or leave a message, informing them of what is at stake for your company.”
TCC is co-chaired by the American Road and Transportation Builders Assn. and the Associated General Contractors of America.
