Celadon Trucking shuts last Little Rock operation

Indianapolis-based Celadon Group Inc. shut down its last Little Rock, AR, operation of Continental Express Inc. last Friday, President Paul Will confirmed to ArkansasBusiness.com.

Celadon acquired the assets of Continental Express three years ago and has not operated a terminal in the area since the acquisition. Will said it proved inefficient to continue to provide driver and customer services without a companion terminal.

About a dozen employees still worked in Little Rock involved in driver management and customer service. Will said they were all offered jobs elsewhere in the company, although only one has accepted and three others have expressed some interest.

“We really enjoyed the individuals down there. Otherwise we wouldn’t have offered them jobs and moving allowance,” Will said. The employees who weren’t willing to transfer out of Arkansas were given “a good amount of severance,” he said.
