The driver was killed and the tractor-trailer totally demolished in a crash on I-5 near Galt, CA, early Thursday morning, according to News 10.

The accident happened around 1:15 a.m. when a 51-year-old truck driver from Lodi, who was heading northbound on I-5 hauling a load of groceries to Redding, veered across the median, crossed over the southbound lanes, and slammed into the Dierssen Road bridge overpass.

The driver was killed instantly when the upper half of the truck was sheered in half. The impact of the crash sent groceries flying all over the freeway and onto the bridge overhead.

Cleanup crews worked for several hours to clear groceries and debris from the highway.
