Fleet Owner Editor-in-Chief Jim Mele and Senior Editor Sean Kilcarr won top prizes at the 56th Annual Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards today.

Mele and Kilcarr combined on a story to win in the Best Profile category while Kilcarr picked up a win for Best Blog for his Trucks at Work blog.

The story, “The Case of the Dusty Lot,” appeared in Fleet Owner’s September 2009 issue. It focused on the multibillion-dollar cargo theft problem facing truck fleets, looking at the issue from the perspective of law enforcement personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept.’s unique “Cargo CATS” team.

Kilcarr’s Trucks at Work blog, which was named a finalist in the same category a year ago, incorporates personal interviews, video and insights gleaned from his years covering the trucking industry.

Mele and Kilcarr picked up their awards at a reception held today at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City.

The Jesse H. Neal Awards are considered the “Pulitzer Prize of the business media” and awarded by American Business Media.
