The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) had published the opportunity to apply for its fiscal year 2007 CMV Operator Safety Training Grant.

These funds were appropriated thanks to SAFETEA-LU, which requires grant recipients to train drivers and future drivers in the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles. Priority will be given to regional or multi-state educational or nonprofit associations serving “economically distressed regions” of the U.S., FMCSA said.

Eligible awardees also include accredited post-secondary educational institutions such as colleges, universities, vocational-technical schools and truck driver training schools as well as state governments and local governments.

Applications must be received by January 31, 2007 at www.grants.gov
