Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corp. will debut its hybrid regenerative braking system on 12 new green refuse trucks in 2007 with the help of a grant from the state of Texas worth nearly $700,000.
Texas’s New Technology Research and Development (NTRD) grant will move Eaton’s Hydraulic Launch Assist hybrid regenerative braking system toward commercialization. Under the grant, Texas refuse companies that purchase a new truck chassis and refuse body can hybridize the vehicle at no cost.
“This is a win-win; it cuts greenhouse gas emissions and fuel costs,” said Rudy Smaling, NTRD program director. “Estimated fuel savings from the coist-effective HLA system also makes this an attractive solution for end users.”
