Grant helps Texas refuse companies go green

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corp. will debut its hybrid regenerative braking system on 12 new green refuse trucks in 2007 with the help of a grant from the state of Texas

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corp. will debut its hybrid regenerative braking system on 12 new green refuse trucks in 2007 with the help of a grant from the state of Texas worth nearly $700,000.

Texas’s New Technology Research and Development (NTRD) grant will move Eaton’s Hydraulic Launch Assist hybrid regenerative braking system toward commercialization. Under the grant, Texas refuse companies that purchase a new truck chassis and refuse body can hybridize the vehicle at no cost.

“This is a win-win; it cuts greenhouse gas emissions and fuel costs,” said Rudy Smaling, NTRD program director. “Estimated fuel savings from the coist-effective HLA system also makes this an attractive solution for end users.”
