New options are on the way for concrete mixer trucks sold by Navistar’s Continental Mixers, LLC, as well as new upgrades to Navistar’s International WorkStar truck chassis line.

First, coming this fall via a strategic partnership with Indiana Phoenix, Continental will offer a new front-discharge mixer to complement its lineup of integrated rear-discharge mixers. This move will integrate the components and engineering expertise of Navistar’s International truck brand with Indiana Phoenix’s 20-plus years in the front discharge mixer business, noted Steve Guillaume, gm for Continental.

The new front-discharge mixers will use MaxxForce 11 and MaxxForce 13 engines with ratings up to 430 hp. The trucks will be sold and serviced through Continental Mixer dealers.

Continental is also rolling out a new technology package dubbed “SuperSlurry,” designed to transform cement stabilization into a clean and precise liquid application vs. historical applications of dry cement and lime. Guillaume said Continental will offer mobile SuperSlurry production plants, SuperSlurry mixers for distribution to job site, and licensing for utilization of the technology.

The company also announced an all-new lightweight integrated mixer that will use a proprietary high-strength steel specifically formulated for concrete mixers. This is expected to deliver a nearly 2,000-lb weight savings vs. comparably spec’d steel mixers.

These new lightweight mixers offer an optional ZF gearbox that integrates the hydraulic pump in the gearbox housing. This option will also be made available on International WorkStar and PayStar chassis.

Navistar pointed out that the WorkStar chassis itself is being improved, with the addition of
an all-new high visibility sloped hood option plus new interior ergonomic enhancements and driver comfort features.

In addition, a strong vocational “mega-bracket” design inspired from the International PayStar 5900 Set-Back Axle (SBA) supports the WorkStar 7600 sloped hood model’s radiator and front end. Other enhancements include: 113-in. BBC for maximum maneuverability; heavy-duty 150,000-lb tow hooks ; 4x2 and 6x4 axle configuration options; availability for REPTO and transmission mounted PTO applications.

New WorkStar interior features include: easy-to-read ivory gauges or chrome bezel black gauges on instrument panel; premium rosewood trim on the dashboard and instrument panel; an ergonomic center panel for easy access to auxiliary truck and body control switches; hands-on steering wheel controls for enhanced driver safety; along with easy-to-clean vocational floor mats and vinyl interior panels throughout the cab to improve durability.
