New from OPW Fuel Management Systems is a completely wireless system fuel control system called PetroLink that monitors fleet vehicle I.D., mileage and other important data through the use of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology when said vehicle is refueled by the driver.
OPW said PetroLink is designed to provide a higher level of fuel security, accountability and control while accurately capturing data without driver intervention – all without the need for wires, special swivels, fuel-authorization cards or time-consuming installation.
The PetroLink system also won’t allow fuel to be dispensed unless the proper RFID tag is identified, providing an extra layer security for fleet managers, the company said. In addition, ease of fuel reconciliation is another key benefit.
OPW pointed out that when a vehicle outfitted with a PetroLink tag is being fueled, the fuel nozzle antenna reads the tag and transmits the vehicle data to the wireless control unit (WCU), which records the driver’s data, as well as the hardware number of the meter installed in the vehicle. The WCU then queries the meter to get an accurate odometer reading before fueling is allowed to begin; a process that reportedly only takes seconds to execute.
