Sentry Insurance announced it has become a member of CargoNet, a national initiative to combat cargo theft through improved information sharing between the insurance and trucking industries and law enforcement.

As a CargoNet member, Sentry will provide its trucking industry insurance clients with an added layer of security to help prevent theft of their cargo while in transit or at rest, according to Don Olson, vice president of transportation at Sentry Insurance.

In addition, Sentry will be able to collaborate with multiple law enforcement agencies through the timely reporting of incidents to the CargoNet database.

“Our membership with CargoNet enhances the benefits our Motor Truck Cargo insurance clients receive,” said Olson. “CargoNet will increase the likelihood of recovery of stolen trucks and loads.”

“Enhanced collection and sharing of information is vital to fighting cargo theft,” said Garry Rivell, vice president of insurance services at CargoNet. “We are greatly encouraged by the membership of a company like Sentry that has such a strong focus on supporting client loss control efforts.”

A division of Verisk’s ISO Crime Analytics unit, CargoNet helps prevent cargo theft and improve recovery rates through secure and controlled information sharing among theft victims, their business partners, and law enforcement. CargoNet offers integrated databases, a theft alert system, task force and investigations support, a tractor/trailer theft deterrence program, and the TruckStop Watch program.

CargoNet also provides driver education and incentives, secondary-market monitoring and interdictions, crime trend analysis and loss control services, and training. More information on CargoNet is available at www.cargonet.com.

Sentry’s transportation insurance niche specializes in insurance and related loss control services for the nation’s trucking industry.
