A 4-year-old boy who wandered away from home and into traffic is safe and sound thanks to a trucker who is said to look a bit like Santa Claus.

The trucker waved the child to his rig and out of harm’s way after the child crossed four lanes of Highway 395 near Eltopia, WA.

The Washington State Patrol told the Tri-City Herald that the little boy ran about a mile away from his aunt’s home Tuesday afternoon while the aunt was taking a shower. The boy was in the highway median about 20 miles from Pasco when the truck driver, Dan Barton, spotted him.

Barton says the boy was running away from other vehicles but came to him when he waved the boy over. The trucker said the child may have come to him because of his beard and glasses, which people say make him look like Santa.

Barton called 911 and Child Protective Services soon reunited the boy with his family.
