LAS VEGAS. Volvo Trucks North America announced it will continue as the sole sponsor of America’s Road Team in 2010 here at the annual American Trucking Assns. Conference.

America’s Road Team, which was founded by and is managed by ATA, deploys professional drivers to promote highway safety and the importance of trucking . Each year, they speak to hundreds of groups of lawmakers, government officials, students, regulators and other truck drivers.

“We view America’s Road Team as one of the most important proactive safety efforts in existence today,” said Scott Kress, Volvo Trucks senior vp – sales & marketing. “The members of the Road Team demonstrate by personal example the trucking industry’s unwavering commitment to highway safety, a commitment which mirrors Volvo’s own core value of safety. Volvo Trucks is proud to continue as the sole sponsor of this outstanding program.”

Team members are referred to as Captains and most have millions of miles of accident-free driving under their belts. Chosen through a rigorous selection process, the Road team Captains promote safe driving to other drivers, students and government officials. The Captains frequently use a Volvo VN tractor, donated by Volvo Trucks, to pull a trailer outfitted as a mobile presentation facility.
