David Congdon will become president & CEO of LTL carrier Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. effective Jan. 1, 2008, taking over the CEO duties from his father, Earl Congdon, who will become executive chairman of Old Dominion’s board.

John Yowell, currently the carrier’s executive vp, will add COO to his title effective Jan. 1, taking over the COO duties from David Congdon due to his promotion.

Old Dominion noted it had to change its corporate bylaws to make these executive changes, as its governing rules previously stated that the chairman also had to serve as CEO, with the president serving as COO.
