Michelin guarantees more life from retread

March 22, 2013

LOUISVILE, KY. Michelin Retread Technologies has announced a new pre-mold retread for the Michelin X Line Energy D that comes with a mileage guarantee as well as EPA SmartWay verified fuel economy performance.

The Michelin X Line Energy D Pre-Mold is guaranteed to deliver 25% more mileage than other SmartWay drive retreads, according to Ted Becker, vice president of marketing for Michelin Americas Truck Tires.  Offering a combination of low rolling resistance, mileage and traction to match the X Line Energy D, the new pre-mold extends that performance to retreading, he said during a press briefing at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

The new pre-mold features dual compound tread and Michelin’s proprietary Matrix Siping. It has a tread depth of 21/32nds and is only available for retreading on Michelin casings.

The company also introduced a new fuel-efficient dual trailer tire for linehaul applications. The Michelin X Line Energy T meets all SmartWay verified requirements and has been submitted for formal verification, according to Becker.

It features the company’s advanced technology compounds which lowers rolling resistance by 10% compared to Michelin’s XT-1 trailer tire with “no compromise” in mileage and durability, Becker said.

It will be available in May in four sizes: 11R22.5, 275/80R22.5, 11R24.5 and 275/80R24.5.
