American Trucking Associations (ATA)-sponsored National Drivers Appreciation Week is set next week from August 22 to 28. During the annual event motor carriers, state trucking associations, trucking industry manufacturers and suppliers honor drivers, according to ATA’s website, truckline.com.
In previous events drivers had been recognized in million-mile and safety awards, received gifts and cash bonuses, extra paid day offs, and company picnics, according to truckline.com.
For example, ABF Freight System recently announced it is readying special activities and awards in preparation for next week.
“With trucking delivering nearly 70% of the freight moved in this country, and with 80% of our communities depending solely on trucking to deliver their food, clothing, and other necessities-it is an important job and the men and women who do it deserve our thanks,” said ATA president & CEO Bill Graves.
