In probably one of the most ironic efforts to honor truckers during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) hosted a special event for the more than 1,000 truck drivers that serve its Alliance intermodal facility in Texas.
BNSF posted a “We Love Truckers” sign at its intermodal terminal and provided truckers hauling containers into and out of the site with refreshments and snacks in a joint effort between BNSF's truckload sales team and trucking partners, such as Dart Transit Co.
In addition to the event in Texas, 11 BNSF intermodal facilities across the railway's 32,500-mile network posted "We Love Truckers" banners.
“This … event is our way of saying thanks to our trucking company partners and their drivers who, along with railroad people, are the backbone of ensuring the products we use daily are delivered safely and efficiently,” said John Hickerson, BNSF assistant vp-truckload sales. “By working together, trucks and trains are providing transportation solutions for companies across the nation.”
Intermodal continues to be a major growth area for BNSF, with its truckload volume increasing 20% in the first half of 2004.
