An accident involving two tractor-trailers set loose hundreds of live chickens at Exit 3 along the New Jersey Turnpike last night at about 3:30 a.m., The New York Times reported.
The accident occurred when one tractor-trailer rear-ended another truck that was carrying its live cargo. The truck carrying the chickens burst into flames, but not without several of the chickens escaping the wreckage, The New York Times reported. Passengers from both vehicles got out before the explosion.
The chickens wandered up the road and into the woods. Rescuers arrived on the scene quickly to herd most of the chickens back into custody. About half the chickens died in the accident, The New York Times said.
