ArvinMeritor’s Commercial Vehicle Systems has announced the availability of its new Meritor SimilAir composite trailer spring, a composite mechanical spring set to compete with air suspensions in linehaul and general service applications.
According to ArvinMeritor, SimilAir delivers ride quality close to that of an air suspension but with much lower initial and maintenance costs. Compared with the lightest air suspensions, it offers up to a 240 lb. weight savings, ArvinMeritor said. The composite material makes it more corrosion-resistant than steel springs, the manufacturer added.
“Ameritor’s SimilAir is a breakthrough technology that delivers the smooth ride operators expect from air suspensions,” said Robert Zirlin, director of Product Planning and Development for North American Trailer Products.
SimilAir represents a joint effort between ArvinMeritor and Liteflex, LLC, with which ArvinMeritor receives exclusive distributing rights to Liteflex truck, trailer and specialty vehicle composite mechanical springs for North America and several other global markets.
